A crash forced the closure of the northbound side of Highway 99 just north of Merced Ave Friday morning, March 11.

One car attempted to merge onto the highway and collided with another in the slow lane.

According to officers, to avoid the two cars that collided, a semi-truck driver swerved and hit the K-rail water barrels in the center median.

A woman was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries after the accident.

According to the CHP, the other driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene of the accident.

This is a narrowing section of Highway 99 that has been undergoing construction.

Due to the water barrel clean-up effort, northbound Highway 99 was closed. It reopened around 4:30 a.m.
