[03-11-2024] Monterey County, CA – 41-Year-Old Male Pedestrian Seriously Injured Following Racing Crash in Salinas

A 41-year-old male pedestrian was seriously injured following a racing crash in Salinas on Monday night, March 11, 2024.

According to the Salinas Police Department, the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. along East Market Street, at the back of the National Steinbeck Center.

Police said that a 19-year-old driver was participating in a street race when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle, a Dodge Charger. He then flipped his car in the process, striking a pedestrian before coming to a stop upside-down on the sidewalk.

The victim reportedly suffered major injuries but is expected to survive. The authorities did not disclose his identity.

The also unnamed driver was arrested and taken to Monterey County Jail for reckless driving. It is unclear if he was injured or not.
