Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

A car accident caused by another driver’s carelessness is never pleasant. If the other driver refuses to stop, accepts responsibility for the accident, and offers assistance, the situation will deteriorate.

Hit-and-runs are all too common in car accidents. In 2016, 2,049 people in the United States died as a result of hit-and-run accidents. According to a recent study, approximately 682,000 hit-and-runs occur in the United States each year. At least once a week, a pedestrian is hit and run by a vehicle.

Pedestrians have no means of defending themselves against the most common cause of pedestrian accidents, which is the negligence of others.

Drivers may flee the scene of an accident for a variety of reasons. Undocumented, uninsured, or otherwise in a precarious situation may be more likely to engage in drunk driving.
