What Should You Do Following an Accident

Once you have collected information, and it is safe to do so, you should file a police report. A central database allows the police to keep records of what took place during the accident on file within the police department, making sure that the information is secure and held together.

In any event, the police will usually respond to an accident scene, but if they don’t, you can file a report after the fact by contacting your local police by phone or in person. Therefore, if the police are not present during the collision, they will collect the information independently, and a police report is prepared afterward.
