Car Crash Statistics

In the United States, motor vehicle accidents are the biggest cause of bodily injury. Every year, almost 2 million people are injured in car accidents.

In 2017, Riverside alone recorded 2,119 injuries and deaths from motor vehicle accidents on surface streets, including Jurupa Avenue, Wells Avenue, Pierce Street, and, more commonly, neighboring freeways like the 91, 215, and 60. Distracted drivers cause about 80% of traffic collisions.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Storefront Safety Council estimates that 20,000 vehicle-into-building crashes occur each year in the United States. This translates into 50 to 60 accidents per day.

“Pedal error” accounts for 41% of all vehicle-into-building collisions.
According to preliminary National Safety Council estimates, 38,800 persons died in car accidents in 2019. It is also estimated that another 4.4 million individuals were critically injured and required medical assistance.

These events result from a variety of reasons, including distracted driving, drunk driving, and driver fatigue.

Riverside County Personal Injury Lawyers for Victims

Injuries and other costs sustained by the injured victim result in damages in a car accident. When filing a personal injury claim, auto accident plaintiffs should seek the highest compensation for their losses from the irresponsible party or their insurance carrier.

Compensatory damages in personal injury litigation include both economic and non-economic damages. Economic damages have an inherent and specific value, such as medical bills or car repair costs. Non-economic damages are more challenging to assign a value to. They typically include pain and suffering caused by the crash.
