[03-16-2022] One Driver Trapped as a Result of Two-Vehicle Crash in National CityOne of the vehicles rolled over onto its side following a two-vehicle crash which slowed down traffic on eastbound state Route 54 in National City Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

According to a California Highway Patrol log, the crash occurred around 5:10 p.m. on eastbound state Route 54 in National City.

The collision involved a white Ford SUV and a white pickup truck.

One of the drivers was trapped as a result of the collision, which shut down three lanes of eastbound traffic near Plaza Bonita Center Way.

After the crash, about ten motorists on the freeway pushed the pickup truck off its driver’s side door and back onto all four wheels, as seen on news footage.

The status of those in the truck was unknown, but helicopter footage showed one person exiting shortly before 5:30 p.m. and boarding a Chula Vista Fire Department ambulance gurney without assistance.

According to a tweet from Caltrans San Diego, the lanes were reopened around 6:45 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
