According to sheriff’s officials, an unidentified motorcyclist was killed in a collision on an Encinitas surface street on Thursday afternoon, March 17, 2022.

[03-17-2022] San Diego County, CA - Motorcyclist Killed in Fatal Collision With Vehicle in EncinitasAccording to San Diego sheriff’s Lt. Chris Galve, the fatal crash happened around 3:50 p.m. on North Coast Highway 101 near Grandview Street.

According to Galve, although the nature of the collision was reported as a collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle, it remains under investigation.

Galve said sheriff’s deputies and Encinitas Fire Department personnel responded, but the motorcyclist died at the scene. He was only identified as a man, and neither his age nor his name was revealed.

There were no other injuries reported as a result of the collision.

Authorities closed the southbound lanes of North Coast Highway 101 between La Costa Avenue and Leucadia Boulevard following the crash to conduct an investigation.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, according to Galve.
