[03-17-2023] 44-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Highway 1A pedestrian collision claimed the life of a 44-year-old man in Santa Cruz on Friday morning, March 17, 2023.

The deadly crash reportedly occurred around 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 1 and River Street.

According to authorities, a vehicle traveling northbound in the area struck the man crossing the street.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and pronounced that the victim had died. His identity is being withheld for now, pending notification of his next of kin.

Meanwhile, the vehicle driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators.

There has been no evidence of a driver’s impairment or negligence, and no arrests have been made. All lanes of the highway have been reopened.

Investigators processed the traffic collision scene, and the Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz County Sheriff-Coroners will complete the death investigation.
