Fatal Big Rig Collision Statistics

The economy needs to have trucks like semi-trucks. Millions of dollars worth of goods are moved by trucks in the United States every year. There are a lot of semi-trucks on the road, which puts other drivers at risk because there is a chance of an accident.

More people are killed in big rig crashes than in any other car crash. It’s hard for other cars to avoid a big rig truck because it’s so big.

The Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation says that big rig truck fatality rates have increased by 30% since 2009. An accident with a big rig killed 4,102 people in 2017 when they traveled on the road.

More than any other state, California has the most truck accidents. There were 3,316 fatal accidents in 2019, with 3,606 people dying. People in big trucks caused 44 deaths when they crashed into things that didn’t work.

It can happen for many reasons, such as driver fatigue and lane drifting, tire blowouts, vehicle problems that do not or do not stop the truck, and too high speed.
