People can suffer life-threatening injuries or even die in pedestrian accidents all the time. Pedestrians aren’t protected in car or motorcycle accidents, but passengers certainly are.

The number of pedestrian accidents in the United States is on the rise. For the past three decades, pedestrians have been the leading cause of traffic fatalities.

Between 2007 and 2016, there was a 27% increase in pedestrian deaths in the United States, while other traffic-related deaths decreased by 14%, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.

In 2017, 5,977 pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents in the United States. Estimates put the number of deaths per minute at around 88. Non-fatal pedestrian injuries resulted in 137,000 hospitalizations in 2017 alone.

Recent studies show that Californian pedestrians are more likely than those in other states to be injured or killed. 893 people were killed, and 14,000 were injured due to pedestrian accidents in California in 2018.

Driver error is the most common cause of pedestrian accidents, including speeding or failing to yield. Nobody should underestimate the value of having an experienced lawyer on their side.

San Diego County Pedestrian Accident Lawyer

It doesn’t matter if the pedestrian is crossing at an official crosswalk or not; drivers must slow down regardless. All intersections subject to regulation must give priority to pedestrians. Accident investigators will investigate the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian to see if he broke any traffic laws.

The deceased person’s family can file wrongful death claims to recover damages from the person or organization responsible for their loss. Payable damages include things like pain and suffering, lost wages, and even funeral costs.
