Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1.35 million people die on American roads yearly. These collisions often result in fatalities among pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

Car crashes are the eighth most common cause of death worldwide and the leading cause of death for teenagers and young children.

In 2020, there were 1.37 fatalities per 100 kilometers driven in the United States. Traffic fatalities increased by 18.4% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year.

Different factors can cause a single-car crash. Run-off-the-road accidents happen when drivers lose control of their vehicles due to speeding or sudden maneuvers on slick, wet roads. Branches and other objects that fall from trucks may also be left all over the streets.

These accidents can be lowered by wearing a seatbelt, staying focused, and steering clear of distractions while driving. Even with safety measures in place, people still run the risk of being involved in fatal accidents.

What Should You Do After an Accident Occurred?

Make sure the police show up and document the accident. Tell the truth about what happened when you are interviewed at the accident scene. Use caution when speaking, and don’t assume things you don’t know. After an accident, it is common for the victim to apologize profusely, even if they were not at fault. Insurance companies can use this act against you to deny a claim by arguing that you have admitted guilt.
