Injuries were reported after a wrong-way collision involving a suspected DUI driver in Santa Ynez Valley on Tuesday night, March 22, 2022.

[03-22-2022] Santa Barbara County, CA - Injuries Reported Following a Suspected DUI Driver in Santa Ynez ValleyThe accident transpired at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Highway 101 near Highway 154 in Santa Ynez Valley.

A southbound driver was traveling in the northbound lanes and collided head-on with an oncoming northbound Toyota.

The wrong-way driver’s vehicle then became disabled on the roadway and ended up blocking the first northbound lane.

One person sustained moderate injuries in the crash and was rushed to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Meanwhile, one of the drivers had to be extricated from the wreckage and was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries.

Authorities suspect that intoxication may have played a role in the accident. An active investigation of the case is currently underway.
