[03-22-2023] Car Crash Along Madsen Road Killed One, Injured Three OthersOne person was killed, and three were injured after a single-vehicle collision in Clovis on Wednesday night, March 22, 2023.

According to reports, the crash transpired around 6:15 p.m. near Herndon Avenue and Madsen Road.

Authorities stated that a car carrying four 18-year-olds lost control on a wet road and crashed into the Friant-Kern Canal.

Three teenagers were able to escape the car and swim to safety, but the fourth passenger was trapped.

The swift current pushed the car hundreds of yards away from where it went into the water, complicating recovery efforts.

The teen was presumed missing all night until his body was discovered in the car after being recovered from the water.

Authorities added that this is not the outcome that anyone wanted or wished for, but it is the case. It just goes to show the dangers of fast-moving water and cold water out here.

The crash is not believed to have been caused by drugs or alcohol, and further investigations are ongoing.

Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision Statistics

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1.35 million people die on American roads yearly. Pedestrians, motorcyclists, and bikers are frequently killed in these collisions.

Traffic accidents are the eight leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for most children’s and teenagers’ deaths.

For every 100 kilometers traveled in the United States in 2020, 1.37 people were killed. Road fatalities increased by 18.4% during the first three months of 2021 when compared to the same period in 2020.

Various factors can cause a single-car collision. A run-off-the-road accident occurs when a driver loses control of their vehicle while speeding or making sharp turns on a slick, wet road. Streets may be littered with branches resembling debris or objects thrown from cars.

Wearing a seatbelt, staying focused, and avoiding distractions while driving can reduce the likelihood of these collisions. Even with safeguards, people can be involved in these fatal accidents.

Trusted Car Accident Lawyers in Clovis

Careless drivers cause the majority of car accidents. Your lawyer must demonstrate that the other driver’s carelessness constituted “negligence per se.” Deliberate actions are more likely to have negative consequences because they are done on purpose.

Legal negligence may also be proven by injured passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. California law explicitly prohibits both negligent and reckless behavior. Both of these scenarios require the assistance of a knowledgeable and tenacious car accident lawyer.
