Authorities say a motorcycle rider was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Merced County on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.
According to a California Highway Patrol news release, officers from the Los Banos area responded to a traffic collision report at 4:54 p.m. near the intersection of Whitworth Road and Taglio Road south of Gustine.
According to authorities, George G., 84, of Gustine, was driving a 2019 Honda north on Whitworth Road at a slow speed approaching the intersection with Taglio Road, preparing to make a left turn.
At the same time, a man was speeding southbound on Whitworth Road on a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle, approaching the intersection with Taglio Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicles collided in the intersection, killing the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist’s name will not be released until their family or next of kin has been notified.
The crash left Griset with minor injuries, which are still being investigated.
According to the CHP, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
