[03-26-2023] 13-Year-Old Girl Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash near Angels Camp, DUI Driver ArrestedA 13-year-old girl was killed while two children were seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash involving a DUI driver in Calaveras County on Sunday afternoon, March 26, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal DUI collision occurred at about 4:00 p.m. along Highway 49, just south of Deer Creek Road, near the city of Angels Camp.

A 2006 Ford F-150 driven by Savannah C., 18, of Angels Camp, was moving northbound when it veered onto the dirt shoulder, lost control, and entered the opposing traffic lane, crashing with a 2017 Ford Escape and causing it to roll over.

The Escape had five occupants, including the 13-year-old girl from Sonora who suffered fatal injuries. The driver, 65-year-old Russell W., an adult passenger, 52-year-old Rachel W., and two other boys, 13 and 11, were airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries.

Savannah and her unidentified minor passenger were sent to Doctors Medical Center with moderate injuries. The driver was detained for felony DUI causing injury.

No further details were immediately available as the further investigation continued.
