Bicycle Accident Statistics

Only 1% of individuals in the United States travel by bicycle. Despite this seemingly small number, it’s crucial to note that bicyclists have a higher risk of injury and death in a collision than car passengers.

In the United States, 8,908 cyclists died between 2007 and 2018. The average was calculated by multiplying that amount by 12. With 857 fatalities, 2018 was the bloodiest year on record for bikers.

Riding a bike has several advantages. It is environmentally and financially beneficial, it is healthy, and it is a quick method to get from point A to point B. Especially in the fast-paced City of Angels, where space is limited, parking is a nightmare. With more and more bike lanes opening up throughout Los Angeles, Los Angeles bike accident lawyers are concerned as injuries stemming from Auto-Bike collisions have risen.

According to The Alliance for Biking and Walking’s 2016 Benchmarking Report, California ranks fourth in the United States for bicycle commuters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that California ranked first in fatalities in 2013 with 141 deaths.

Since 2016, Los Angeles County has seen 36 bicycling deaths per year on average. With 42 victims, 2019 had the highest death toll.
