[03-29-2020] Oakland, CA – One Person Dead While Three Others Injured After a Pedestrian Accident on Bancroft Avenue

A 29-year-old man identified as Desmond King was killed after being struck by a car on East Oakland sidewalk. Three other pedestrians aged 39, 45, and 50 were struck by the same vehicle as well. 

According to the initial reports from the Oakland police, the accident happened at around 6:51 p.m. in the 5400 block of Bancroft Avenue. An unidentified 29-year-old man was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, the driver struck a parked vehicle then proceeded to drive into four men who were standing on the sidewalk.   

Sadly, Desmond, one of the pedestrians, died at the scene. The three other pedestrians were immediately brought to a nearby hospital; they attained varying degrees of injuries. 

The unidentified driver attempted to flee the scene on foot but was later caught by the police and apprehended. The driver is now facing multiple charges, including suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, and driving under the influence.
