Truck Collision Statistics

Truck accidents in the United States claim the lives of approximately 4,000 people every year. Heavy vehicle accidents account for only 2% of all accidents but account for 11% of all fatalities.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, over 28,000 truck-related accidents occur daily. In 2017, 359 people were killed, and 9,000 were injured in these accidents.

The state and federal governments in California have set a 55 mph speed limit for large vehicles. Reduced speed limits may help to avoid semi-truck accidents.

Because of the larger size and construction of a truck, truck drivers have a lower risk of injury in collisions than other vehicle drivers or pedestrians. According to the National Safety Council, pedestrians and drivers are the most likely to die in these accidents. However, the damage and injuries may be more severe when two trucks collide.
