Pedestrian Accident Statistics
Pedestrians are more likely to get hurt on the road. Because pedestrians don’t have airbags or seat belts like people in cars, they don’t have any protection that can keep them from getting hurt.
There have been a lot of pedestrian deaths in the United States in recent years, which has made them a big deal. Between 2007 and 2016, pedestrian deaths rose by 27%, while other traffic-related deaths fell by 14%.
In 2017, about 1,200 pedestrians were killed, about a fifth more than the year before. Meanwhile, approximately14,000 pedestrians were injured in accidents.
Many pedestrian accidents are caused by distracted, speeding, drunk, or reckless drivers. They also don’t follow traffic rules and don’t drive in the right direction, which is against the law.
