Road Rage Incident Statistics

Road rage is defined as the act of a driver threatening another driver’s safety with their vehicle. Aggressive driving and the deliberate irresponsibility of an enraged motorist lead to catastrophic injuries and even fatalities.

Even if aggressive driving is only a traffic infraction, a driver who engages in road rage can be charged with a criminal offense. This is especially true in cases where an aggressive driver in their vehicle has assaulted a driver.

According to the Zebra, road rage is on the rise, with 82% of people admitting to a recent incident. The American Automobile Association (AAA) found that road-rage incidents caused more than 200 murders and 12,000 injuries in seven years.

Approximately 37% of aggressive driving incidents, as determined by the AutoVantage Club, involve the use of a firearm. Road rage is a factor in about 30 murders each year.

Even if you aren’t responsible for the actions of other drivers, it’s best to avoid escalating a tense situation. If you find yourself the target of road rage, make sure your doors are locked, and you have enough room to get out of the vehicle.

Call 911 or drive to the nearest police station if you believe your life is in danger.
