The California Highway Patrol was looking for a driver involved in an illegal sideshow display in north Sacramento who struck and seriously injured a spectator before fleeing on Thursday, March 31, 2022.
The accident occurred around 12:20 a.m. near National Drive and Vista Park Court.
According to a social media post from the CHP North Sacramento office on Tuesday, about 50 to 60 vehicles spun doughnuts in an unincorporated area near the crash scene.
According to the CHP, a light blue Dodge Charger performing stunts skidded onto the sidewalk and struck a spectator, causing major injury to the pedestrian. The driver then fled the scene.
A passenger in a light gray hooded sweatshirt hung out the left rear window and filmed the stunt with a cellphone, according to a brief video clip shared by the CHP.
The car’s rear end then kicked out onto Vista Park Court’s curved sidewalk, sending a pedestrian tumbling backward, as shown in the 5-second video clip.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and is trying to ask for the public’s assistance in identifying the hit-and-run driver.
The crash remains under investigation.
