According to police, one 31-year-old woman riding an electric scooter through downtown San Diego ran a red light, collided with an Uber driver’s van, and suffered a badly broken leg on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
According to a San Diego Police Department news release, the crash occurred shortly after midnight in East Village at 11th Avenue.
The crash occurred when the 31-year-old woman rode through a red light on E Street at 11th Avenue.
The driver, a 64-year-old rideshare employee in a Toyota minivan, drove through the intersection with a green light. The woman slammed into his car.
According to police, the rider suffered a serious injury — a compound fracture of her left leg — and was taken to the hospital. It was not a life-threatening injury.
According to news reports, the Uber driver stayed at the scene and was interviewed by officers.
The crash remains under investigation.
