A driver struck and killed a pedestrian on State Route 78 in Vista, early Saturday morning April 2, 2022.
According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 3:00 a.m. near Emerald Drive.
According to Gerber, the pedestrian was reportedly walking in the westbound lanes of SR-78 and was struck by a Dodge Journey SUV.
The man died at the scene, his identity remains unknown.
The SUV driver, a 58-year-old San Marcos man, was unharmed in the collision, according to Gerber.
The driver was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and remained at the scene.
The police are still getting information about the victim.
