Motorcycle Crash Statistics

The number of motorcycle accidents is going up at an alarming rate. All in all, there were about 8.7 million motorcycles registered in 2017. In 2019, 5,014 people died when their motorcycles were in accidents.

There is no doubt that motorcycle riders are some of the most vulnerable drivers. People who ride motorcycles are 16 times more likely to get hurt and 35 times more likely to die in a crash than people who ride in cars, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says.

Almost 75% of motorcycle accidents involve a motorcycle and a car, and more than half of all motorcycle accidents happen after the sun goes down.

The weather and scenery in California make it easy to ride a motorcycle all year long, even in the winter. However, California has become a place where many people get into big motorcycle accidents.

Every year, about 400 people die in California when they are hit by a car while riding their motorcycle. There are no seat belts, airbags, or steel frames on bikes like other cars on the road.

Most motorcycle accidents are caused by distractions, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, bad weather, wrong-way driving, and not obeying traffic laws, but these aren’t the only ones.
