Authorities say a vehicle struck and killed a man on Interstate 5 in Encinitas late Sunday night, April 3, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 11:50 p.m. on northbound I-5, south of Santa Fe Drive.
A 46-year-old Solana Beach man was walking in I-5’s northbound traffic lanes when a 50-year-old driver struck him in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee in the second lane.
According to Officer Hunter Gerber, first responders arrived, but the 46-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene.
The 50-year-old driver remained at the scene and stated that no injuries had occurred.
Officer Gerber stated that the roadway was closed until around 2:30 a.m. while the scene was investigated.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to have played a role in this traffic accident.
There are no other details available. The crash remains under investigation.
