A 17-year-old Somerset girl was killed in a fatal DUI accident near Omo Ranch Road in the south county Tuesday night, April 5, 2022.

According to CHP investigators, the two were traveling at a high rate of speed on Omo Ranch Road east of Mt. Aukum Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, striking several trees before reaching the pond.

The 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis came to rest upside down in a pond. The Placerville office of the California Highway Patrol reported the driver, also a 17-year-old Somerset girl was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The CHP’s collision report states the driver lost control of the vehicle due to her impairment.

The driver was able to free herself from the Grand Marquis but was unable to assist her passenger.

Passersby stopped and assisted in getting the passenger out of the car. CHP investigators discovered that the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the passenger was not.

The driver was transported to Marshall Hospital for medical treatment, and the passenger was taken to UC Davis Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injury.
