According to the Hollister Police Department, the chase started around 7:33 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a seemingly drunk driver whose car had hit a fence near the Flynn Road and San Felipe Road intersection.

The driver, identified as Rodrigo G., reportedly moved to a different location. When the responding officers tried to arrest the driver, the vehicle sped away and a short pursuit ensued northbound on Highway 25.

When the suspect driver crashed into a vehicle along Highway 25 and 156, he got out of his car and tried to escape on foot. He allegedly ran around 200 yards from the crash site before being arrested by police.

One of the car’s occupants the drunk driver crashed with was airlifted to a local trauma facility with unspecified injuries. Another occupant was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The suspect refused to cooperate with field sobriety tests. He was later booked at the county jail on multiple charges, including felony hit-and-run and DUI causing bodily injury.
