Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Some of California’s most dangerous motor vehicle accidents are single-vehicle accidents, but many drivers aren’t aware of this fact.
Sixty-two percent of all fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Drivers in California, where single-vehicle accidents are all too common, need to be aware of the many contributing factors.
Many factors can cause an accident involving only one vehicle. A run-off-the-road accident occurs when a driver loses control while speeding or making sharp turns on a wet, slick road. It is possible to find debris on the road, such as a large branch or an object that fell from a truck.
An accident resulting from a deer jumping in front of your car is likely to limit your compensation under your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage plan, even if the deer was not your or another driver’s fault.
Los Angeles County Car Accident Lawyers
Because of their injuries, many people involved in car accidents are unable to return to their previous places of employment or education. If a negligent driver causes the death of another person, they are still responsible for their actions, regardless of the circumstances. The surviving family members of the victim can file wrongful death lawsuits against the driver who was negligent and, as a result, caused the victim’s death (or legal heirs).
It’s difficult for them to go through the motions of grieving and reliving their experiences. Depositions and trials force victims to testify about their losses in front of strangers. One’s mental health can take a significant toll during the course of a lengthy legal battle.
It is critical to hold negligent drivers accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence has resulted in an unnecessarily high death toll. While wrongful death claims can be emotionally draining, they can also provide a measure of closure for the families of those who have died. This is good news for everyone who travels on the state’s highways.
