Sudden braking or failing to yield to pedestrians are common causes of accidents involving pedestrians.

In order to avoid collisions, it is advised that pedestrians use sidewalks whenever possible, abstain from drug and alcohol use, and proceed with caution when crossing parking lots or driveways.

What To Do Following an Accident

Find a safe place to pull over immediately after the accident. Those who cause an accident and then flee the scene are subject to severe penalties. Even if you can’t call the police, you should still report any accident that results in death or severe injury. Anyone who is a passenger in a vehicle with an impaired driver must notify the police.

If no one was hurt, you could safely pull over to the side. Police may impound vehicles found abandoned on the side of the road.
