What to Do After a Train Accident

If you or a loved one is involved in a train accident, here are the steps that you need to take:

  • Dial 911 immediately. In contacting the police or your insurance company, tell them the truth and don’t make any assumptions.
  • Don’t ever accept guilt, not even to the authorities. Tell the police officer nothing but the truth about what happened. Describe the crash in as much detail as you can.
  • Quickly see a specialist or your primary care physician. Getting medical attention right away helps lessen the severity of injuries. Internal injuries that have not yet manifested externally can be detected by means of tests and scans.
  • The other party’s insurance company may contact you as soon as the day of the accident. You can communicate with the claims adjuster, but you shouldn’t reveal any more information than is required. Do not provide an interview or accept a settlement offer from an insurance company before seeing a lawyer.
