[04-12-2022] Fresno County, CA – Two Officers Injured Following Head-On Crash on Shaw Avenue

According to police, two officers were injured after their police cruiser was hit head-on after a traffic stop in Fresno on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

The crash occurred on a Tuesday morning near Shaw and West Avenues.

Officers made a traffic stop near Abby Street and White Avenue, but the suspect vehicle fled as officers approached.

According to officials, the license plate had been flagged as armed and dangerous, and the driver was said to be an active gang member wanted for assault with a firearm on a person.

According to authorities, the pursuit came to an end near Shaw and West Avenues when the vehicle lost control and veered into the westbound lanes of Shaw Avenue.

According to police, the driver, Jose G., 27, accelerated head-on into the patrol car, causing it to go backward for a short distance before turning around and speeding away.

Garcia allegedly came to a halt on Teilman Avenue, just south of Shaw Avenue, where both suspects fled into the neighborhood, according to police.

With the help of air support, Garcia was discovered hiding on the top of a roof.

Police say they’re still on the lookout for a second suspect.

The collision caused significant damage to the patrol car.

According to police, two officers were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and are expected to recover.
