One person was killed while two others were left injured following a two-vehicle crash in South Bay on Tuesday morning, April 12, 2022.

A Ford Ranger was traveling northbound in the left lane when, for unclear reasons, it crossed into the five-lane freeway before colliding with a Volkswagen Jetta.

Due to the severity of the impact, the pickup truck rolled over and ejected a 63-year-old female passenger. The ejected woman was rushed to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, the pickup truck driver sustained major injuries and was rushed to UCSD Medical Center for treatment. The Jetta driver was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest for treatment of minor injuries.

Information about the accident is limited at the moment. It’s unclear whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Local authorities are further investigating the case.
