Pedestrian Accident Statistics

According to the NHTSA data, one pedestrian is killed in traffic every two hours. Furthermore, every 8 minutes, one pedestrian is injured by a car.

In the United States, roughly 110,000 pedestrians are harmed each year. According to the NHTSA, about 6,227 pedestrians were killed in 2018, a 250 rise from the previous year.

To avoid being hit by a car, pedestrians should constantly adhere to safety rules. While there is no guarantee that an accident will not occur, adhering to specified safety measures significantly reduces the risk of being found liable if an accident occurs.

Many pedestrian accidents are caused by inattentive, speeding, drunk, or dangerous drivers. They also disobey traffic laws and drive the wrong way.

To prevent being hit by a vehicle, pedestrians should walk on sidewalks whenever possible. If there is no sidewalk, walk in the other direction of traffic and as far away from it as feasible. Cross the street at a crosswalk or an intersection. Keep an eye out for cars going in all directions, particularly those turning left or right.

San Diego County Personal Injury Attorneys

A personal injury is caused by the negligence of another person. It can also be caused by more than one person or a company. If a person or company is negligent, they have a legal obligation to compensate you for all the injuries and losses caused by their negligence.

One of the most common examples of a personal injury case is a car accident. A driver’s negligence causes most car accidents. A negligent driver must compensate any other drivers, passengers, bicyclists, pedestrians, or others injured through this negligence. This requirement is why California – like other states – requires drivers to carry auto insurance with liability coverage.
