[04-14-2023] San Diego County, CA – At Least One Person Injured After Multi-Vehicle Crash in Carlsbad

One person was injured after a multi-vehicle crash in Carlsbad on Friday afternoon, April 14, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 911 dispatchers got a call around 1:36 p.m. reporting a car fire after a collision of six vehicles on northbound Interstate 5 near Palomar Airport Road.

The crash involved three sedans, two vans, and a semi-truck. Another 911 caller reported that a truck was atop another vehicle.

One person was transported to the local hospital. The exact number of people involved and the extent of their injuries are currently unknown.

A CHP log reports that one vehicle is still smoking, and a van is torn in half from the side.

The area around the collision on I-5 in the northbound direction had stopped. The CHP requested the authorities to issue a Sigalert by 2:05 p.m.

The authorities required a sweeper to clear the road of debris. Only one lane of northbound traffic was opened by authorities while workers tried to clear the road.

The investigation regarding the cause of the collision is still ongoing.
