[04-16-2023] One Person Injured After Pedestrian Accident in Northwest BerkeleyA 53-year-old male was injured after a pedestrian accident northwest of Berkeley on Sunday afternoon, April 16, 2023.

According to the Berkeley Police Department, the collision occurred at San Pablo Avenue and Virginia Street intersection shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Reports state that the Berkeley male pedestrian was walking westbound across San Pablo in the northern crosswalk when the vehicle driver, a Richmond woman, struck him in the northbound lanes. She told the police she tried to brake but hadn’t acted quickly enough.

The pedestrian did not appear to have severe injuries and was transported to Highland Hospital. The authorities said the pedestrian was “relatively lucky” and that healthcare providers did most medical assessments out of caution.

The driver stayed at the scene and had no signs of injuries.

This accident is the most recent injury collision at this intersection. It was said that infrastructure improvements have already been installed to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. However, they still need to be activated.

In a recent update from Caltrans, they said the signal should be operational by the end of the week unless unforeseen circumstances arise.

What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident

It can be hard to think clearly after being hit by a car, especially if you’re hurt. It is important to remember that what you say and do at the accident scene can significantly impact your subsequent claim against the at-fault party. Follow these steps to avoid doing something that might reduce the value of your personal injury claim:

  • Request an accident report from the authorities after the collision.
  • Ensure you take pictures of the vehicle that hit you, your injuries, the accident scene, property damage, road conditions, and other relevant information.
  • Photograph the driver’s license, insurance card, and license plate.
  • Get the names and contact details of eyewitnesses. Also, obtain information on anyone who has seen anything.
  • Visit a doctor or a healthcare provider immediately, and ensure they know which parts of your body are affected.
  • Keep a journal where you can record your injuries and recovery process. Record how you feel, the treatment you receive, and what costs you pay.
  • Avoid speaking with an insurance adjuster or accepting a settlement offer before consulting with an attorney.
  • Avoid using social media. Don’t post about your accident or accident circumstances.
  • To discuss your case, immediately speak with a skilled pedestrian accident lawyer.
