[04-17-2022] San Diego County, CA – Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 15 Results in Death of 19-Year-Old Man

According to the California Highway Patrol officers, a semi-truck struck and killed a 19-year-old pedestrian while he was walking northbound on Interstate 15 on Sunday, April 17, 2022.

According to CHP Public Information Officer Salvador Castro, the man was walking on the right shoulder of I-15 when he walked into the traffic lanes for unknown reasons. A white Freightliner big rig driver struck the man when this happened.

As a result, the man suffered serious injuries. According to Castro, he died on the spot.

While crews were on the scene, investigators closed the right lane of northbound I-15 for two and a half hours.

The driver of the Freightliner stayed put to speak with investigators as part of this effort.

According to Castro, the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A toxicology report will be conducted to see if drugs or alcohol played a role.

The crash remains under investigation.
