According to California police, a hit-and-run driver rammed into a golf course employee identified as Ismael H. at Monarch Bay Golf Club on Monday, April 18, 2022.
The crash occurred at 4:15 p.m. on Fairway Drive in San Leandro.
Hernandez was hospitalized after being rear-ended by a stolen black Dodge Ram pickup truck.
He eventually succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.
Hernandez was using a bicycle lane on Fairway Drive to return a riding mower to the golf course maintenance yard.
The driver of the pickup truck, who witnesses claim had been driving recklessly in the area prior to the crash, fled the scene, according to police.
According to the release, police later arrested a passenger in the truck on a warrant, which led to the arrest of accused driver Jason M., 43, of Oakland.
According to police, McDermott is charged with negligent vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run with injuries, and other offenses.
