[04-19-2022] San Diego County, CA – Five People Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash in South Bay

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in the South Bay sent at least five people to the hospital Tuesday morning, April 19, 2022.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly after 5:00 a.m. on northbound I-5, just north of state Route 54, entering the National City area from Chula Vista.

The cause of the accident is unknown, but according to news reports, at least five people were taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

One person was trapped in a vehicle for a short time and had to be rescued by emergency personnel.

During the typically busy morning commute, the incident caused a heavy backup on the northbound I-5 lanes stretching all the way to J Street in Chula Vista.

There are no other details available.

The crash remains under investigation.
