According to the authorities, the traffic incident happened at about 6:12 p.m. on Highway 18 and Quinnault Road.

The crash involved a red 2006 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and a white 2016 Toyota minivan. Initial investigations suggest that the Kawasaki was moving along the eastbound No. 1 lane of Hwy 18 when, for some reason, it crashed into the side of the minivan that was traveling north on Quinnault Road, making a left turn onto Hwy 18.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel saw the two vehicles blocking the intersection and some good samaritans rendering aid to the victims. The motorcyclist, who was later identified as Matthew H. from Apple Valley, died despite efforts to save him.

Witnesses told authorities that the minivan had several children inside when the accident occurred. It was later confirmed that the vehicle had a total of six occupants, and all of its airbags were deployed as a result of the crash.

There is no word yet about the total number of injured people inside the minivan, but a medical helicopter was said to be requested to airlift one of the juveniles to a trauma center.

Additional information was not immediately available. Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities and help with the investigations.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

Motorcycle riders are more vulnerable to fatalities and severe injuries because they are not as protected as drivers of other vehicles. Despite this, they remain prevalent, as they are highly accessible and can give their riders a sense of freedom.

However, compared to car passengers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that they are 16 times more prone to injury and 35 times more likely to die. In 2021, the fatality rate for motorcyclists was almost 24 times that of a regular passenger car occupant per vehicle mile traveled.

Furthermore, due to how accessible motorcycles are, many are tempted to use them even without the proper skills to do so. The NHTSA suggests that 36% of motorcycle riders involved in fatal crashes in 2021 were riding without valid motorcycle licenses.
