One man was killed, and a woman sustained major injuries after a fatal crash on Friday night, April 22, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened after 10:00 p.m. on Highway 198 near 6th Avenue.
Officers attempted to pull over a driver in a Chevy Camaro who was speeding in the eastbound lanes, but he refused.
According to reports, the Camaro was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.
The driver lost control of the vehicle as it approached 6th Avenue, overturned, and collided with the back of another vehicle.
The two cars collided on the side of the highway near Avenue 11 and went down an embankment.
According to the CHP, the driver of the Camaro was most likely not wearing a seatbelt. He passed away on the spot.
The woman behind the wheel of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
CHP Sgt. Brian Pennings stated that they are awaiting the toxicology report to see if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
