The collision occurred around 1:19 a.m. in the area of Montague and N. 1st St. in North San Jose, according to San Jose police.

According to police, a 2014 Honda CRV carrying four people was traveling southbound on N. 1st St. when it ran the red light at Montague, colliding with a 2022 Toyota sedan traveling west on Montague with a green light.

According to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputy Russell Davis, the Honda CRV had been stolen and was involved in a recent carjacking in the area of First Street and Younger Avenue.

The Honda driver failed to yield to a patrol vehicle and collided with the other vehicle after a brief pursuit by deputies.

According to police, the Honda driver suffered serious injuries, was found unresponsive, and was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The three passengers, a man, two underage girls, and the Toyota driver, were all taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after confirmation of the victim’s identity and notification of next of kin.

While authorities conducted their investigation, traffic was impacted, and drivers were advised to take alternate routes.
