[04-23-2023] Two People Suffer Severe Injuries After Wrong-Way Driving Accident on I-580Two people sustained injuries after a two-vehicle collision due to a wrong-way driver in Alameda County on Sunday morning, April 23, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol was notified about the accident around 7 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 near Seminary Avenue.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Ford F-150 pickup truck was heading the wrong way east on westbound I-580 and intentionally trying to run head-on into other vehicles.

Eventually, the pickup truck collided with a Ford F-250 belonging to the City of Oakland, which led to a SIG alert and the closure of all westbound lanes.

CHP spokesperson Officer Karina Oseguera said that the F-150 driver was taken to Highland Hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the F-250 was taken to the same facility with less severe wounds.

At around 8:30 a.m., all lanes were reopened to traffic, according to Oseguera.
