Fatal Car Crash Statistics

Even though single-vehicle collisions are among the most lethal on California’s roads, many motorists aren’t aware of this fact.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 62% of all fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle. As a result of California’s high number of single-vehicle accidents, drivers must be aware of all of the various factors that contribute.

A single-vehicle collision can be caused by a wide range of factors. It is common for a single-car accident to occur if the driver is speeding or making sharp turns on a wet or slippery road and loses control. The road may also be littered with debris, such as a large branch or a piece of a truck that fell off.

An accident caused by something that is not your or another driver’s fault, like a deer jumping in front of your vehicle, will likely limit your compensation under your comprehensive insurance plan.

Sacramento County Car Accident Lawyers

Because of their injuries, many people involved in car accidents are unable to return to work or school. Negligent drivers are not exonerated from responsibility for their actions even if a victim is killed. Victim’s family members can file wrongful death lawsuits against the negligent driver who caused their loved one’s death (or legal heirs).

For them, the process of reliving their losses and grief is a painful one. In depositions and trials, victims must testify about their losses in front of strangers. One’s mental health can take a significant toll on one’s ability to get a case settled, which can take months or even years.

It’s critical to hold reckless drivers accountable when they cause an accident. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence resulted in an excessive death toll. For grieving families, wrongful death lawsuits can be emotionally challenging but can also provide a sense of closure. This will benefit every driver in California.
