According to the California Highway Patrol, one person was killed in a collision between a car and a trash truck on state Route 163 in the Linda Vista area on Monday, April 25.
According to the CHP, the fatal crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. on northbound SR-163 near Genesee Avenue.
According to CHP officials, a Ford Fusion was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when it collided with a trash truck traveling in the right lane at a slower speed.
The Ford’s 24-year-old male driver was killed on the spot after suffering serious injuries. According to the CHP, he was the only one in the Ford.
It was unclear whether any of the garbage truck’s occupants were injured in the collision.
Multiple SR-163 lanes were closed during the morning commute due to the crash and subsequent investigation.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol have not yet determined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
