Fatal Car Crash Statistics

Many California drivers aren’t aware that single-vehicle collisions are among the most hazardous.

Only 62 percent of all fatal car accidents in California involve one vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As a result of California’s high number of single-vehicle accidents, drivers must be aware of all of the various factors at play.

A single-vehicle collision can be caused by a wide range of factors. Running off the road occurs when a driver loses control while speeding or making sharp turns on a wet, slippery road. This is the most common single-car accident. It is possible to find debris on the road, such as a large branch or an object that fell from a truck.

An accident resulting from a deer jumping in front of your car is likely to limit your compensation under your insurance policy’s comprehensive coverage plan, even if the deer was not your or another driver’s fault.

San Diego County Car Accident Lawyers

Because of their injuries, many people involved in car accidents are unable to return to work or school. Even if a victim dies due to a negligent driver’s actions, that person is still held accountable. The surviving family members of the victim can file wrongful death lawsuits against the driver who was negligent and, as a result, caused the victim’s death (or legal heirs).

This process is extremely difficult for them to go through. Depositions and trials force victims to testify in front of strangers about their financial losses. One’s mental health can take a significant toll on one’s ability to get a case settled, which can take months or even years.

When a driver is at fault for an accident, it is critical that they be held accountable. Accountability is critical in cases where negligence has resulted in an unnecessarily large death toll. While wrongful death claims can be emotionally draining, they can also provide some closure for grieving families. This is a win-win situation for everyone on California’s roads.
