According to California Highway Patrol officers, at least one person was injured in the collision due to a multi-vehicle crash on the westbound I-10 on Thursday morning, April 28, 2022.
The crash occurred just after 8:00 a.m. on the westbound I-10 near the Beaumont Avenue offramp.
Three vehicles collided, slowing traffic on both the westbound and eastbound I-10 through Beaumont to the Malki Road exit in Banning.
According to the CHP, an Infinity SUV, a Rav-4, and a big rig headed west hauling a wide load collided at the Beaumont Avenue offramp.
The big rig flipped on its side because of the force of the collision, and at least one vehicle crossed the center divider, disrupting eastbound I-10 traffic.
A witness told CHP that some vehicles clipped the SUV and caused the traffic collision.
The SUV’s driver was thought to have sustained an injury to his arm.
No other injuries have been disclosed.
As of 9:30 a.m., westbound I-10 traffic had been diverted at North Highland Springs, and I-10 commuter traffic had been backed up for miles through Banning.
Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics
When several vehicles collide, the result is a multi-vehicle accident. An accident involving six or more vehicles is known as a pileup.
Multiple-vehicle collisions are more common when visibility is impaired by weather conditions like fog, rain, or snow. Therefore, drivers must take extra precautions and pay attention to the road. Drivers may not be aware of the dangers of driving on the highway.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 40% of all traffic deaths, or 13,000 people per year, are the result of collisions involving more than one vehicle.
Drivers often have little time to avoid colliding with cars ahead of them in many crashes. Panicked drivers tend to slam on the brakes too late, causing them to veer into oncoming traffic.
Attempting to avoid an accident by driving into oncoming traffic could set off a chain reaction, resulting in a much worse pileup. Obviously, a multi-car collision is one of the deadliest types of traffic accidents.
Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicles around it while driving at a moderate speed to avoid multi-vehicle collisions. A multi-car pileup can be avoided by paying attention to the road and the weather.
