The California Highway Patrol reported that a driver died and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Highway 160 along the Delta in south Sacramento County on Thursday, April 28, 2022.
The fatal collision occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Highway 160, just south of West Sherman Island Road.
According to the CHP South Sacramento Area Office, a Rio Vista woman was driving a black Saturn sport utility vehicle south on the highway at 55 mph.
According to the CHP, a female, also from Rio Vista, was driving a silver Kia SUV north on the highway at 55 mph when she entered a designated left-turn lane to West Sherman Island Road.
According to the CHP, the Saturn driver allowed her vehicle to cross the double-yellow lines and into the northbound left-turn lane, colliding with the Kia head-on.
According to the CHP, the Kia driver died as a result of his injuries, while the Saturn driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
The authorities worked at the scene for nearly two hours, closing the highway in both directions.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will disclose the driver’s name and age after her family has been notified.
The name of the Saturn driver was not mentioned in the CHP press release.
