Officer Hunter Gerber of the California Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 6:00 a.m. on I-5 near state Route 76 in Oceanside.

According to officers, the two tires came loose from a big rig driven by a 47-year-old Granada Hills resident and landed between the No. 2 and No. 3 southbound lanes of I-5.

According to Gerber, the officer, whose name was not released, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The CHP did not report any other injuries.

The officers are still investigating the accident.

According to Gerber, drugs and alcohol aren’t thought to be a factor.

Pedestrian Accident Statistics

More pedestrians and motorcycle riders are injured or killed while on the road. They aren’t adequately safeguarded in the event of an accident.

Sadly, the number of people killed or injured while walking has increased dramatically. Despite a 14 percent decrease in traffic-related deaths between 2007 and 2016, more people were killed while walking than driving.

In 2017, 5,977 pedestrians were killed in the United States. According to this estimate, one person dies every 88 minutes. A total of more than 137,000 non-fatal pedestrian injuries were treated at emergency rooms in 2017.

There are a disproportionately high number of pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries in the Golden State. There were 893 pedestrian deaths and 14,000 injuries in California last year.

The majority of pedestrian accidents are caused by carelessness on the part of drivers, including speeding and failing to yield the right of way. An experienced attorney’s guidance is critical in these types of cases.
