What To Do After A Car Accident

Car accidents cannot be predicted, but they can be avoided. This checklist will help you protect your legal rights after an accident. You can take the following steps:

  • Keep an eye on the situation. Examine your own body for injuries before evaluating and assisting others.
  • Wait for the authorities. Move disabled vehicles to the side of the road if possible. As a safety precaution, activate the vehicle’s hazard lights.
  • Call 911 to report your accident. Officers will gather evidence, take statements, and compile an incident report.
  • Obtain vital information from all parties involved. Photographing your injuries, the road condition, the weather, and the vehicle that hit you would be beneficial.
  • Maintain your cool and never admit fault, even to the police.
  • Inform the authorities about what happened.
  • Seek medical assistance. Consult your primary care physician or specialist. Immediate medical attention can lessen the severity of any injuries.
  • Notify your insurance company. Insurance companies in California have a time limit for reporting an accident.
  • Consult insurance adjusters. You should only reveal the necessary details when speaking with them. Do not give a recorded statement or accept a settlement offer before consulting with an attorney.
  • Make a file with the police report, your medical bills, information about the other driver, and your treatment plan.
  • Seek immediate legal counsel from a reputable California reckless accident lawyer.
Car Accident Statistics

Between 2019 and 2020, fatal collisions increased by 6.8%, and the fatality rate increased to 1.34 per 100 million vehicle miles. There were 6% fewer injuries per 100 million vehicle miles in 2020 than in 2019.

In car accidents, drivers experience 67% of the severe and fatal injuries, compared to 4% for motorcyclists, 3% for pedestrians, and 2% for pedal cyclists.

Unlike traffic accidents, multi-vehicle collisions frequently result in fatalities and serious injuries. If you lose control or become unconscious of your surroundings, others near you may suffer due to your actions. These kinds of catastrophes are common.
