Accidents involving pedestrians are increasing in the United States. For the past three decades, pedestrian accidents have been the leading cause of traffic fatalities.

In the United States, pedestrian deaths increased by 27% between 2007 and 2016, while other types of traffic-related deaths decreased by 14% during the same period, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).
